            Your Privacy Matters: SnaptTxt is designed with privacy as a core principle. All OCR processing happens locally on your Mac using Apple's Vision framework. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your screen content or personal data.
        

1. Introduction

Welcome to SnaptTxt ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our macOS application SnaptTxt (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy.

2. Information We Collect

We Do NOT Collect Personal Data

SnaptTxt does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information or user data to external servers. All operations are performed locally on your Mac.

Local Data Processing Only

The App accesses the following on your device for functionality purposes only:

Screen Recording: To capture the selected region of your screen for OCR text extraction
Clipboard: To write extracted text so you can paste it
Local Files: Only if you explicitly set an output file — to append captured text

All of this data remains on your Mac and is never sent anywhere.

3. How We Use Permissions

Screen Recording Permission (Required)

We request Screen Recording permission to capture the region of the screen you select. This is the only way to extract text from arbitrary screen content.

Only the region you draw is captured — not your entire screen
Captured images are processed immediately by Apple's Vision framework and then discarded
No screenshots are saved to disk unless you explicitly choose to do so

Accessibility Permission (Required for Global Shortcut)

To listen for the global keyboard shortcut (⌘⇧8) while other apps are active, macOS requires Accessibility permission. This permission is only used to detect the specific key combination — no other keyboard input is monitored.

Notifications (Optional)

SnaptTxt requests permission to show notifications to confirm when text has been copied or saved. This can be disabled in the app's Preferences.

4. OCR Processing

Text recognition is performed entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework (VNRecognizeTextRequest). This means:

No image or text data is sent to any server
Processing works fully offline
Apple's framework handles the recognition — we never see your content

5. Data Storage

SnaptTxt stores the following data locally on your Mac:

App preferences (output file path, notification toggle, keyboard shortcut) — in macOS UserDefaults
Capture history (last 5 captures) — in memory only, cleared when the app quits

No data is stored in any cloud service or external database.

6. Third-Party Services

SnaptTxt does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any data.

7. Children's Privacy

Our App does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The App is intended for general audiences.

8. Your Rights and Choices

You have complete control over your data:

Permissions: You can revoke Screen Recording or Accessibility access in System Settings at any time
Notifications: Toggle off in SnaptTxt Preferences or in System Settings
Deletion: Uninstalling the app removes all app data

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Your continued use of the App after any changes indicates your acceptance.
